నాకొక ధర్మసందేహం వస్తోంది. నేను ఇండియా వచ్చినప్పుడల్లా నాకొక ధర్మసందేహం వస్తోంది.
నా విద్యుల్లేఖ చిరునామా name@gmail.com అనుకుందాం. దీన్ని అమెరికాలో అయితే "నేం ఎట్ జి-మెయిల్ డాట్ కాం" అని చదువుతాం.
ఇండియాలో చాలమంది ఇదే చిరునామాని "నేం ఎట్ ద రేట్ ఆఫ్ జి-మెయిల్ డాట్ కాం" అని అంటారు.
"ఎట్ ద రేట్ ఆఫ్" అన్నప్పుడు ఏదో కొంత జోరుగా పరిగెడుతున్నాదనే అర్ధం స్పురిస్తున్నాది కదా. ఇండియాలో పద్ధతి ప్రకారం ఈ-మెయిల్ "జి-మెయిల్ డాట్ కాం" అంత జోరుగా పరిగెడుతున్నాదనే కదా అర్ధం.
ఇది జీర్ణించుకోలేక నేను ఇండియన్ పద్ధతి తప్పు అని చెప్పి చూసేను.
"మీ అమెరికా వాళ్లు చేసినట్లే ప్రపంచం అంతా చెయ్యాలని రూలు ఏమయినా ఉందా? మేము "నేం ఎట్ ద రేట్ ఆఫ్ జి-మెయిల్ డాట్ కాం" అనే అంటాం" అని మొండికేసేరు.

Symbols have different names/meanings depending on the place they are used. For example . at the end of a sentence can be called a period/full stop while in a number 2.34 is called point/dot. Similarly @ normally meant 'at the rate of' but when used in email-ids has to be called 'at'. Calling it 'at-the-rate-of' is showing their ignorance of the usage of symbols. I hope your friends get to know the explanation.
